PORTFOLIO

BIO

As a ceramicist, I have a strong aesthetic vision; my pieces have a sense of theatrics and drama, and they are not designed to fade into the background. Even though my pieces might have a function, their ornamental  quality prevails over functionality.

My pieces are all handmade, and each one is unique. My work is not a reaction to any trend or style. I am not interested in creating anything new or original per se because I think every act of artistic expression is a combination of influences, ideas, and ancestral memories. Therefore, tradition, canon, and cultural heritage are essential to my understanding of ceramics.

I believe that every design (or symbol or image) is always an expression of something larger, something mysterious and intangible that transcends the object itself. All ideas and concepts are timeless and eternal, and they are just waiting to be brought from the darkness into the light.

I worked for several years in art institutions and many more traveling the world with a theatrical/circus company, when by happenstance I was introduced to the ancient craft of ceramics, and something profound and unexpected woke up in me. Despite holding a bachelor's degree in Humanities and Philosophy of Art, I had never before discovering ceramics attempted to create art myself.

For the last four years, from the solitude of my studio, I have been learning the craft and techniques and dedicating my time to finding my own voice and aesthetics.  My ceramics are my journey of self-awareness and my personal tribute to tradition, and simultaneously every piece is a moment of revelation.
